Planit

An event-planning app that gives Indianhosts one place to find, vet, and coordinatetheir vendors.

MY ROLE

  • Research Synthesis
  • Feature Design(Dashboard)
  • Design Direction

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Hosts lack a centralised, trustworthy system to source, vet, and coordinate event vendors. The resulting fragmented communication and manual workflows create hidden costs, lack of real-time budget visibility, and frequent last-minute failures, producing high time cost and stress for hosts while compromising event outcomes.

TARGET AUDIENCE

Individual hosts and family organisers in urban India; coming from middle and upper-middle income backgrounds running weddings, personal celebrations, college events, small-scale corporate events and community gatherings. The person who ends up running the event because it is their family’s/office’s event, usually alongside a full-time job, usually for the first time.

INSIGHTS

Surveyed 41 people who'd hosted or co-hosted an event in the last two years. Three things stood out: hosting at this scale happens once a year or less for most people, so nobody gets good at it; weddings and family functions are the highest-stakes category by a wide margin (63.4%); and the vendors hosts actually want; small, local, personal are exactly the ones with no website, no rates, and no reviews to check. Put together, It's a trust and coordination problem that stays unsolved right through booking and payment.

THE SOLUTION

Planit centralises vendor discovery, vetting, booking, and day-of coordination into one platform, built around the event rather than the vendor listing. Vendors, budget, tasks, and messages all attach to a single event record, so a host can compare vendors on real information, track what's paid against what's owed, and coordinate the day without living inside a WhatsApp thread.

MY KEY CONTRIBUTION

Even though the dashboard feature was collectively decided as an essential feature from the start, I took initiative and designed the wireframes and prototyped the Dashboard section of the app, where the entirety of an event lives. It lets users track payments, work progress, event prep progress and more.

  • The dashboard’s Task tab: tasks with a priority and a status, filterable by assignee
  • The dashboard’s Budget tab: initial budget beside current expenses, a pie chart by category, and each vendor marked Fully paid, Partially paid or Payment due
  • The dashboard’s Calendar tab: timed entries for Venue Setup Day and Promo Photography, each with a venue, a brief and a countdown
  • The dashboard’s Guests tab: a searchable list of invited guests
